• Don't go to dinner hungry. I know this sounds crazy, but it's a really good idea. We often eat faster and more when we are hungry-therefore eat a wholesome breakfast and lunch to avoid over eating at dinner.
• Thanksgiving buffet is not an all-you-can-eat buffet. Fill your plate half with vegetables, one quarter with meat, and the rest with a starch. Stop eating when you are full. Don't just eat it because it's there.
• Eat in moderation. Go for smaller portions. This way you can sample all of the different foods.
• Limit high-fat items. High-fat food items can be found in fried and creamy dishes as well as cheese filled casseroles in a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. Other high-fat dishes are: mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, candied yams, and of course all of those desserts like sweet potato and pumpkin pie.
• Drink plenty of water. Drink calorie-free water to fill up your stomach faster.
If you are cooking Thanksgiving dinner, be sure to substitute high-fat ingredients with low-fat or fat-free ingredients. Also, try to experiment with new healthy low-fat recipes. You can find healthy recipes on Google.
Follow these tips and I guarantee that you won't be making that cliché New Year's resolution to lose the weight that you gained over the holiday!
