A church away from home

If you're searching for a better way to start your week, James Krump wants you to know that salvation is right on campus.
Every Monday at 7:30p.m., a group of Norfolk State University students congregate to discuss a spiritual topic supported by biblical context. The Bible Talk Group, led by Krump of New Saint Mark C.O.G.I.C, becomes immersed in a spiritual word related to various chapters of the bible.
The discussions are much like church sermons, but the group can respond to the week's particular discussion; whether it's a question or added input.
The Bible talk objectives are not to gain attention or pass judgment, said Krump, but to help those who attend to leave a better person than they were when they came.
The meetings are an hour and a half long, and end with a corporate prayer. An added bonus to the bible study is an invitation to a church home away from home. The church New Saint Mark C.O.G.I.C in Portsmouth has opened their doors to the students at NSU as a place of worship and ministry. The goal of this invitation is to prevent out-of-state students from being absent from the word of God during the nine months they are away at school, said Krump.
The group has been in effect since the summer of 2005. They meet every Monday in the 24 hour room of the NSU Library.
